Hi, I’m
Carlos E. Torres
Building clinical AI at Oracle Health and researching how AI should interact with people.
I'm a Brazilian-American software engineer based in Florida. I lead technical design and delivery of the Clinical AI Agent at Oracle Health, a multimodal assistant that moves between voice, text, and touch without losing context. Alongside that, I research LLMs, NLP, and Human-Centered AI as a Ph.D. student at UCCS.
Two decades of shipping software across three countries, from a BBS I ran as a kid in Brazil, to helping improving billing systems in Portugal, to opening my own company, to building mobile, AI powered, systems used by healthcare providers in hospitals. I've been a founder, a consultant, and an engineer inside multinationals, which tends to make me useful in the space between what a business wants and what a system can actually do.

Using Kokoro, an 82 million parameter model, on my laptop to narrate every post on this site, for free, offline. The interesting part was never the model. It was everything around it: HTML extraction, the text cleaning rules nobody warns you about, and one Python version that cost me an evening.

Accuracy Is the Wrong Metric for Clinical AI Agents August 11, 2026 · 9 min read
Benchmark accuracy tells you a model can answer questions. It tells you almost nothing about whether a clinician should trust it at 3 a.m. Here is what actually breaks when clinical AI agents move from the leaderboard to the ward, and the five layers I think an evaluation stack needs instead.
