TL;DR. Software engineer, two decades in. Principal Software Engineer at Oracle Health, where I lead the technical design and delivery of the Clinical AI Agent. Ph.D. student in Computer Science at UCCS researching LLMs, NLP, and Human-Centered AI. Former founder. Three countries. Still curious.

  1. Before all started. As a child I was genuinely curious, I used to take apart radios and other small eletronic devices to understand how they work. I then started playing with computers and created my own BBS using a DOS program called RemoteAccess (RA). I was twelve, living in Fortaleza in the northeast of Brazil, and I had worked out how to make a computer answer the phone so that strangers could dial in and leave messages for each other. That is still, more or less, what I do. I build the thing in the middle that lets people and machines talk to each other.
  2. Where it started. I earned my BSc. in Computer Science at Universidade Federal do Ceará in Brazil, and joined an AI research group as an undergraduate working on expert systems. My interest in artificial intelligence did not begin with the current wave. It began in a research lab, with expert systems and a very stubborn curiosity. It was where I started.

  3. Portugal. After I finished school, I moved to Lisbon to build web systems in .NET for the Vodafone Portugal billing process. Five years inside a multinational taught me what a small team cannot: how enterprise software gets specified, defended, and delivered at scale, and how much of engineering is actually communication.

  4. Founder. When I got back from Portugal, I started Cacira, building web and mobile software for clients across Brazil, and grew it into contracts with banks, media groups, and construction firms. I added an MBA in Project Management at FGV to get better at the half of the job that is not code. After 5 years I brought the company with me to the United States, where it still operates from Florida.

  5. Oracle. I joined in 2021 and have had three careers inside it. First Oracle Advertising, where I owned the backend of a full stack platform for managing customer ad campaigns, built in Node.js and NestJS with MySQL and Redis. Then a move within the same org into data engineering and machine learning, processing ad performance from high volume data streams. That is where I learned Go, sharpened my Python, and got a real feel for what happens to data at scale. Now Oracle Health, where I tech lead the architecture and delivery of the Clinical AI Agent, a multimodal mobile assistant for clinicians across voice, text, and touch, with context that has to survive the transition between them. In a clinical setting, being confidently wrong is not an acceptable failure mode, which makes this the most interesting engineering problem I have worked on.

  6. Research. I started my graduate studies at UCCS in 2021 and earned an M.S. in Computer Science in 2024. Then continued with my Ph.D. until now. After a winding path through bioinformatics, cybersecurity, and homomorphic encryption, I landed where I belonged: LLMs, NLP, and Human-Centered AI. The question I keep returning to is not whether these systems can do the work. It is whether they amplify the people using them or quietly replace their judgment. In healthcare, that distinction is not academic.

  7. Now. I write here about AI, engineering, and the space between the two, and I keep a few side projects running at all times. I play drums, and I still take things apart to see how they work.
